SEGMENTS

Rio Summit Scene Setter / Peter Thomson

Peter Thomson provides a backgrounder on the issues of economic development and the environment —- two issues which seem to be colliding at the largest meeting of heads of state ever assembled. (03:27)

Indigenous Conference / Prothap Chatterjee

Prothap Chatterjee attended the meeting of leaders of indigenous peoples two weeks prior to the Rio Summit. Native leaders are concerned that their voices will not be heard at the conference. (04:48)

Gita Sen 2-Way

Steve talks with Dr. Gita Sen, a population expert and visiting professor at Harvard who says that diplomats in the North don't understand that Southern nations view the North's overconsumptive habits as a far greater threat to environment than growing population. (03:37)

H. Ross Perot's Environmental Record / David Wright

WBUR's David Wright looks back at the Perot's past experience with environmental issues —- including one incident when Perot had trees on his properties removed in order to get around a city ordinance that was to protect an endangered bird species that used those trees as home. (06:48)
